According to UNI EN 12845 (reference standard for the design, installation and maintenance of fire-fighting sprinkler systems) “An automatic sprinkler system is designed to detect the presence of a fire and extinguish it in the initial stage with water, or to keep the flames under control so that extinguishment can be completed by other means”.

The sprinklers to be used with the ALFAIDRO NOFIRE system must be type-approved and of the red ampoule type: normal activation at 68°C (rapid response). When the sprinkler head is hit by the flow of hot smoke and reaches the activation temperature, it opens and starts spraying water onto the area below.

The ALFAIDRO NOFIRE system guarantees water supply to the sprinklers under the pressure and flow conditions required by the system and for the minimum duration prescribed by the reference standards, which, according to UNI EN 12845, must be

30 minutes for LH activities
60 minutes for OH activity

  • Reduced installation time and costs
  • Stop corrosion and scaling; stop sprinkler clogging; reduced system maintenance
  • Increased hydraulic capacity
  • Resistance to chemicals
  • Seismic stress absorption
  • Acoustic insulation
  • Impact resistance
  • 50-year service life
  • Potability and non-toxicity
  • Ecology

SOCKET WELDING

Installation by polyfusion welding is quick and easy and does not require the use of sealants or adhesives. The outer surface of the pipe and the inner surface of the fitting are heated simultaneously on the polyfusion dies. Once the welding temperature is reached, the two pieces are removed from the heat source and inserted into each other. The joint is ready.

This creates a watertight, uniform and inseparable coupling that will last for the life of the system; with polyfusion, in fact, pipe and fitting become one and the same and a double thickness of material is created in the bonding zone, which doubles safety at a point that, in metal systems, is the most critical.

BUTT WELDING

This is performed by simultaneously heating the lateral surfaces, of equal diameter and thickness, of two pipes or fittings in contact with the polyfusion unit. Once the welding temperature has been reached, the two pieces are moved away from the heat source and joined by pressure.

SADDLE WELDING

With the use of saddle fittings, existing installations can be modified quickly and economically; in fact, it is sufficient to drill a hole in the pipe, weld the saddle fitting to the pipe surface using the appropriate die to create an additional branch.

Alfaidro NOFIRE pipes and fittings are manufactured in accordance with the following standards:

  • UNI EN ISO 15874-1, -2, -5, -7 Plastic pipe systems for hot and cold water installations (PP);
  • UNI EN ISO 21003: Multilayer pipe systems for hot and cold water installations inside buildings;
  • DIN 8077-78: Polypropylene (PP) pipes – PP-H, PP-B, PP-R, PPRCT;
  • DIN 16962: Polypropylene tube and pipe fittings for pressure pipes;
  • DIN 16837: Multilayer pipes – Plastic multilayer pipes – general quality requirements and testing;
  • BS 4991: Specification for pressure pipe of propylene copolymer;
  • ASTM F238: Standard specification for polypropylene (PP) pressure pipe systems.

The reference standards for welding Alfaidro NOFIRE are:

  • DVS 2207: Welding of thermoplastics;
  • DVS 2208: Thermoplastic welding machines and equipment.

The Alfaidro NOFIRE system is suitable for fire protection installations according to the following standards:

  • UNI EN 12845: Fixed fire-fighting installations. Automatic sprinkler systems. Design, installation and maintenance.
  • UNI EN ISO 13501: Fire classification of construction products and elements.
  • DIN 4102: Behaviour of building materials and building elements in case of fire – Part 1: Classification of building materials – Requirements and testing;
  • NFPA 13: Requirements for the use of plastic pipework for the installation of automatic sprinkler systems;
  • FM 1635: Standard for plastic pipes and fittings for automatic sprinkler systems;
  • UL 1821: Standard for pipes and fittings for thermoplastic sprinklers for fire protection services;
  • VdS 2344: Procedure for verification, approval, certification and conformity assessment of products and systems for fire protection and safety technology;
  • LPS 1260: Edition 3.1 – Plastic pipes and fittings for use in automatic sprinkler systems.

Nofire System

A system of FASER pipes and fittings, made of PP-RCT with a special flame retardant additive and reinforced with a middle layer of special fibres; it meets high standards of mechanical and ageing resistance and its fire reaction classification according to UNI EN 13501-1 is B-s1-d0.

It is approved for use in environments with a fire hazard class:

  • Low Hazard (LH) or Ordinary Hazard (OH) as defined by UNI EN 12845
  • Light Hazard (LH) according to NFPA 13, 13R and 13D standards
  • HC-1 in accordance with FM Standard 1635.
